Crush injuries can cause internal damage, fractures, nerve or vascular injuries, and other life-threatening conditions—even when there’s little visible bleeding.

  1. 01Control the hazard: Stop the operation, make the area safe, and prevent further injury.
  2. 02Activate the ER plan: Call EMS early for significant crushing injuries.
  3. 03Check and care: Control any external bleeding, monitor breathing and circulation, and keep the person still.
  4. 04Don’t improvise: For entrapment, coordinate extrication with EMS and trained personnel.
  5. 05Stay with them: Monitor for changes until higher-level care arrives.
TAKEAWAYSerious injuries can be hidden.
